The Foreign Trade Zone program was created by the U.S. government in the 1930s to facilitate international trade and increase the global competitiveness of companies based in the U.S. Several industrial areas in Flint and the area around Bishop International Airport are designated as Foreign Trade Zones but have never been activated and used as local economic development tools. This grant will enable the Genesee Chamber Foundation to activate Flint’s Foreign Trade Zones and provide training and outreach to help generate economic and job creation activities. The trade zone program promotes economic growth by creating and retaining jobs in the community. In addition, it will be a valuable asset for attracting new businesses and new investment in the community. The Genesee Chamber Foundation was created to receive and administer funds for educational, scientific and charitable purposes and for the public welfare of Genesee County, Michigan, including support for the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce.
