About this grant

This grant will enable the Organizers’ Forum, a project of the Tides Center, to create opportunities for experienced community organizers to continue their professional development. The forum was developed by a group of experienced community organizers from several networks with the goal of helping others in the field improve their skills and reflect on their work.Multiyear funding will support several gatherings of community organizers on various topics, including framing and messaging. An international comparative dialogue will take place in Indonesia in fall 2005. Evaluations will be conducted to determine the satisfaction of the participants, as well as whether and how the experience affects local practice. To date there have been eight dialogues on a variety of topics, including New Constituency-Based Strategies and Tactics, the Future Landscape of Organizing in the U.S., and New Immigrant Organizing. In addition, exchange programs were held to visit community organizing efforts in Brazil, India and South Africa, with organizers from those countries being hosted in the U.S.
