Building U.S. Community Foundation Engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals at the Local Level

Authored by philanthropic researcher, Dr. Larry McGill, this report examines how the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation supported community foundations across the United States between 2019-25 to advance the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level. Having worked with community foundations for decades, the Mott Foundation believed these place-based organizations were uniquely positioned to use local action to solve global challenges, while applying a global perspective to strengthen local solutions. In support of this work, Mott awarded 32 grants totaling $6.79 million to the U.S. community foundation field. The report highlights what was funded, what was achieved and the key lessons learned.
